The Smyrna Quay - Addendum
The first phase of research on the Smyrna Quay, initiated in 2012, focused on recording, designing, and documenting all the buildings along the legendary waterfront, known as the «Quay,» as it stood in September 1922. This phase concluded in May 2018. The culmination of the research was the publication, in the autumn of that same year, of the two-volume work «The Quay of Smyrna – Tracing a Symbol of Progress and Splendour.»
However, as noted in the closing remarks of the book's preface, «The Smyrna Quay still has many stories to tell.» Indeed, the topographical, historical, economic, and other research on the Quay never truly ceased, as numerous new findings continued to surface. These discoveries either confirmed and enriched existing knowledge or introduced entirely new insights.
These new findings provided the material for the writing of an Addendum to the original book, which was published in December 2024 by Menandros Publications in the 26th volume of Asia Minor Chronicles, with the prospect of being incorporated into a future, expanded edition.
